Out of all the major players in the golf shoe world, Nike seems to remain the most nonchalant when it comes to design. When I say nonchalant, I’m not talking about a lack of effort, mediocrity, or subpar golf shoes. I’m talking about simple, streetwear-inspired or retro golf kicks that heavily appeal to the 18–45 year old age group. Take a glance at our reviews of the Air Jordan 9 G, the Nike Air Max 1 86 OG G, or the Jordan 1 Low G to see what I mean.
Nike continues this trend with the Nike Air Pegasus 89 G, and oooooooooh boy, am I here for it. I fall into the above-mentioned age group, so I’m a sucker for the simple retro design of the Pegasus 89 G. Nike (and other brands) continue to take retro running and basketball shoes and turn them into functional, and comfortable, performance golf shoes.

Sizing: True to size but snug
Traction
There’s nothing too special about the rubberized traction of the Nike Air Pegasus 89 G. Like a mom loving Diet Coke, it’s pretty typical.
It’s not spike-level quality, but it performed on par with other spikeless models we’ve tested. The rubber traction is multi-shaped with different tread patterns on various parts of the shoe. We mainly see square and rectangular treads, but there’s a mix of other shapes as well.
For golfers in dry climates, this is a wonderful option. Golfers in wetter climates can find better spikeless traction, but I still wouldn’t turn down a couple of rounds in the Nike Air Pegasus 89 G in the rain. It’s good enough to hang tough.
So, while there’s better spikeless traction available on the market, there’s also much worse.
Fit
The Nike Air Pegasus 89 G is true to size but fits more on the snug side. It gripped the bridge of my foot a lot tighter than I prefer, but I didn’t notice it until after the third hour on my feet.
It wasn’t tight enough to recommend sizing up, but it’s worth noting that you may feel some tightness on the top of your foot. Those who prefer a roomier fit may want to steer clear of the Nike Air Pegasus 89 G for optimum comfort.
Cushion
The Nike Air Pegasus 89 G is a comfortable option if you’re looking for something that works both on and off the course.
The midsole features two densities of foam in the forefoot and heel. On top of that, it includes an encapsulated Air bag in the heel, which was easy to feel and added some much needed softness for my heel.
Whether you walk or ride, you can count on solid comfort underfoot from the Nike Air Pegasus 89 G. It’s also “comforting” (dad joke intended) to know the Nike Air Pegasus 89 G can be worn off the course as well. At the time of writing, I’m at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, [Editor’s Note: that’s an impressively bougie name drop mid review] and the Pegasus 89 G has been wonderful as a hybrid casual and golf shoe.

The foam from the middle of the foot to the heel is a higher durometer (firmer) to reinforce the midsole and features a small guiderail to support the heel.
The extra rearfoot support helps the most when tackling more aggressive terrain, where the elements press against the sides of your feet. It helped keep my feet centered and balanced through my swing.
You’ll notice the greatest benefit on hilly courses with plenty of climbing. If you’re anything like me, you hit a few shots off target throughout your round. The support of the Nike Air Pegasus 89 G will help golfers navigate diverse terrain with ease.
Price
The colorway I tested is currently $120 on Nike’s website, with a couple of other options closer to the $80 price point.
At $120, the Nike Air Pegasus 89 G is one of the most affordable golf shoes in Nike’s arsenal. The price is fair and makes this model worth every penny – especially since it’s durable and can handle more than just golf.
Nike Air Pegasus 89 G Summary
To tell you the truth, I thought the Nike Air Pegasus 89 G would be “just another Nike golf shoe.” I was wrong. I was pleasantly surprised by the performance and feel of the Pegasus 89 G.
The feature I’ll tout the most is its convenience both on and off the course. There are plenty of golf shoes that perform well in both settings, but the Pegasus 89 G does so while maintaining a signature stylish look.
Aside from the convenience and style, the cushion and support are consistent with what I’ve experienced while wearing other Nike shoes. While there was some discomfort on the bridge of my foot, it was minimal. When I took the Pegasus 89 G off, my feet still felt good. The discomfort on my foot was due to the tighter fit. The cushion of the Pegasus 89 G is solid with no complaints from me.
This shoe is designed for all types of golfers looking to enjoy a casual round of golf. This is a solid spikeless option but I’m still keen on recommending spiked shoes for competitive players. The Nike Air Pegasus 89 G is the perfect golf shoe for a quick nine holes before work without needing to swap shoes after your round.
