Tisci’s Nikelab x RT: Training Redefined
A dream team of designers and celebs alike.
The intersectionality of sportswear in fashion has become more visible than ever, as evidenced by the major collaborations taking place at Puma and adidas, in addition to what we’re seeing on the international runways, with brands like Vetements, for example. Nike has also been keeping up through its NikeLab program, which is now leveling up with its upcoming Summer of Sport collections. Givenchy’s Riccardo Tisci, Louis Vuitton’s Kim Jones and Jun Takahasi of UNDERCOVER have each teamed up with the Swoosh to create their own lines that combine both fashion and function in a climate where athleisure continues to prevail.
Reinterpreting the monumental French vs. American fashion event of the century Tisci’s Nikelab x RT: Training Redefined, and today we see more of it as modeled by Travis Scott and Joan Smalls, while Fetty Wap and Cameron Russell pose in pieces from Kim Jone’s line. By plucking two big names in hip-hop to showcase what we can expect to see from the Summer of Sport triad, Nike also shows the harmonious union of fashion and music. “Look,” says Tisci, “in the ’70s and ’80s, sporty people could wear only sportswear, and artists had to look only dirty and underdressed. Today, the world has changed, and these kids who are heroes of sport want to look good—they want to bring their own personality to the playground!”
