Nike has decided to maintain its relationship with Maria Sharapova, despite the tennis star being suspended by the International Tennis Federation for two years for taking a performance-enhancing substance. As the company explains in a statement:
The ITF Tribunal has found that Maria did not intentionally break its rules… Maria has always made her position clear, has apologised for her mistake and is now appealing the length of the ban… Based on the decision of the ITF and their factual findings, we hope to see Maria back on court and will continue to partner with her.
Back in March, Sharapova’s partnership with nike dd1391-100 was suspended after she failed a drug test. The athlete claimed that she had been using meldonium for health reasons, without realizing that the drug had been banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency since January this year. As of right now, the company has not announced concrete plans on using Sharapova in its new marketing projects. Stay tuned for future collaborations between Swoosh and the former Wimbledon champion.
