It's Summer Forever with Sustainable Label, First Base
The Australian label uses 100% recycled polyester yarn for its high performance activewear line.
First conceived back in 2013, Australian sports lifestyle brand FIRST BASE has been creating must-have activewear and swimwear ever since. Inspired by Bondi surf and skate culture, designer Alison Cotton takes on an ethical and sustainable approach that strips away all the ”extras.” The result is a selection of well-constructed basics that can be paired with just about anything.
Using a process called “water rescue,” First Base uses recycled fabrics that takes traditional waste items — such as industrial plastic, yard discards and fishing nets – and puts them through a repurposing process that produces 100-percent recycled polyester yarn. The yarn is then taken to the mill and spun with Lycra, which is then used as an activewear fabric. In fact, this is the same textile that is used in First Base’s FIT High Performance Lycra range. Alongside this practice, the sustainable approach is an all-encompassing one for the Bondi brand, as their office only uses recycled paper — which uses 55-percent less energy to produce and helps preserve our forests.
