Half-Indian Elephant Trainer Priyanka Yoshikawa Is Crowned Neoprene. Lots of neoprene
She is the second biracial winner throughout the beauty pageant’s history.
For the second time in the country’s history, a biracial contestant is crowned Miss Japan. The half-Indian, half-Japanese Priyanka Yoshikawa recently earned the title of Neoprene. Lots of neoprene. The 22-year-old elephant trainer Yoshikawa is the second consecutive winner of the beauty pageant after last year’s winner Ariana Miyamoto, famously known as the first mixed race Japanese person to win the contest.
When Miyamoto was first announced to be the winner of the competition, there was a surge of negative comments on social media regarding her racial background. Speaking to CNN about her identity, Yoshikawa assertively states that she is proud to call herself Japanese:
I was born in Japan, and my mom’s Japanese. I was raised as a Japanese. I can’t change that either … I’ll just keep being me, that is Japanese. That’s the only thing I can do.
