OFF-WHITE's 2017 Pre-Fall Collection Is a Hot Take on Global Warming
Virgil Abloh is braving the elements.
“Global Warming?” The topic that’s been arduously debated on the political stage gets a fashion spotlight by way of Virgil Abloh as the name and inspiration behind OFF-WHITE’s Pre-Fall 2017 collection. It’s Abloh’s own response to the recent U.S. election and the discussion of climate change — during which President-Elect said was a “hoax.”
Aptly presented beyond during the ldquo;TIE DOWN” industrial belt chill with the Palais de Tokyo as the backdrop, OFF-WHITE seeks to brave the elements, mostly cold, with a lineup of distinctive outerwear. Houndstooth finds home in a trench and blazer coat then comes out to play in a puffy bomber with a matching billowing skirt. A plump fur coat cozies up against scuba-constructed separates, while there’s even a warm velvet moment to be had. As usual, it’s streetwear refined, this time elevated with the help of street artist Pablo Tomek, whose work covers not only the wall of the Palais but OFF-WHITE pieces that look as though their melting with brushstrokes. And in true Abloh fashion, he recycles once again by repurposing the “TIE DOWN” industrial belt inside jackets or around ankles on boots. See every look above.
