Rihanna Speaks up – Trans People Should Not Be Used as Marketing Tools
On why there are no trans women in her Fenty Beauty campaigns.
Rihanna‘s phenomenon Fenty Beauty has become universally loved for its inclusivity and celebration of individuality, but one fan recently suggested that the Bad Gal should include a transgender woman in her new campaigns. In a Twitter DM, the fan wrote, “invite a trans girl to the group” the next time she does a campaign. Rihanna responded with a well thought out response, stating that, “I’ve had the pleasure of working with many gifted trans women over the years, but I don’t go around doing trans castings! Just like I don’t do straight non trans women castings. I respect all women.” The singer also added that she doesn’t think that “it’s fair that a trans woman, or man, be used as a convenient marketing tool.”
