Apple's New Update Comes with a Price
Is it worth it?
Amidst all of the commotion surrounding the iPhone 8‘s release, most smartphone users may have overlooked the fact that Apple is currently rolling out its latest software update. The upgrade comes with a healthy dose of new features, including a particularly handy element of added customizability. However, there’s one catch that you may not have been aware of: with the new update, your iPhone will no longer be able to support 32-bit apps. If you’re unsure about what this signifies, it essentially means that nearly 200,000 game, education, entertainment, and lifestyle apps in the App Store will no longer be supported.
Although this is not entirely new news to tech buffs (Apple warned app developers back in 2013 that they should update their apps within these guidelines), it is a little bit jarring for the wider public. If you’d like to check if your apps are affected, you would first have to download the new iOS11 update, go to “Settings,” tap “General,” tap on “About,” and then click on “Applications.” You will then be shown which apps are 32-bit – hopefully, you won’t glanceat too many changes.
Unfortunately, this process is more or less unavoidable so…good luck.
