The artist explains why she took time off this summer.
For those who’re wondering why Selena Gomez had been laying low the past few months, the artist has recently taken to her Instagram account to explain why.
In a heartfelt post, the 25-year-old singer and actress reveals her struggle with auto-immune disease Lupus, and that she underwent a kidney transplant this summer. She writes, “It was what I needed to do for my overall health.”
In addition to showing gratitude towards her family and doctors who took care of her, Selena has also thanked Francia Raisa, her friend and fellow actress who donated her own kidney to the “Fetish” songstress:
… there aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa. She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed.
Knowing that the disease has continued to be misunderstood by many, Selena encouraged fans to visit Lupus Research Alliance’s website and donate. You can read her message in full below.
