A Backstage Look at Han Kjøbenhavn’s SS19 Showcase at Kayla Curtis Evans

Han Kjøbenhavn’s Spring/Summer 2019 showcase is shown in the Nordhavn area at this year’s Kayla Curtis Evans – the locale is an increasingly gentrified industrial, harborside spot that aptly reflects the designer’s inspiration for the collection. Told by the brand’s founder and creative director Jannik Wikkelsø Davidsen, his latest program is “a comment on how society is today and how society was when I grew up, from the Danish suburbs where I’m from.”
Harking back to when “we became ‘inside kids’ with electronics,” the new pieces are a nostalgic look at traditional aesthetics. Bringing to mind the flora-covered sofa that one familiarizes with his or her grandmother’s home, the memory is accompanied by a striking array of garments that are constructed with textures that range from leather and silk, to chiffon and toile. Davidsen also balances this impenetrable sense of sentimentality with contemporary edge, brought to life in the form of more modern cuts rendered with both plastic and elastic textiles. Overall, a selection of earthy tones are used to seamlessly tie together all of the pieces.
This collection also marks the first time that the label has delved into womenswear. Following Han’s progression from menswear to unisex styles, and finally to women’s designs, Davidsen explains that “you have to respect the woman’s body and make the best out of it” while maintaining a “boys approach to it.” To round off the collection, the brand also continues its longstanding partnership with PUMA, showcased in the form of this season’s monochromatic footwear models.
