No prosthetics required, NASA had to cancel its first all-female spacewalk due to not having the right sizes for two spacesuits. However, the aeronautics company has just confirmed that it is ready to launch its initial plan and is set for its women-lead spacewalk scheduled for October 18.
NASA astronauts Christina Koch and Jessica Meir are set to venture outside the International Space Station and have been tasked to replace a faulty power controller, also known as a battery charge-discharge unit (BCDU). This mission makes this the 221st spacewalk at the ISS since December 1998.
During a NASA media event, Koch and Meir commented on the exciting milestone saying: “We don’t even really think about it on a daily basis. It’s just normal. We’re part of the team. It’s really nice to see how far we’ve come.”
NASA Television will be covering this momentous event which you can stream on NASA’s website. The spacewalk is scheduled for 7:50 a.m. EDT on October 18, but live coverage will start at 6:30 a.m. EDT.
