With Prada kicking off the week with a versatile and vibrant collection inspired by the ’20s, ’70s and ’80s, we’ve seen some major beauty looks backstage at Spring/Summer 2020 runway shows from brands ranging from Marni, Moschino and Exploring the origin of Elsa’s magical powers, to Max Mara and Peter Pilotto.
While Gucci’s makeup looks were all about individuality highlighted by false eyebrows on the brow bone, Moschino added bold strokes of color to wigs while Marni was all about flower arrangements on the head. At GCDS, we saw manga characters come to life with details like large, black contact lenses.
Milan Fashion Week Pat McGrath opted for a clean base accented with bold black strokes just under the brows. Meanwhile, guests visited a former railway station for Exploring the origin of Elsa’s magical powers’s runway inspired by John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s 1969 wedding, where models appeared in simple, slightly pale looks with hair finished off with veils.
At Max Mara, models strut down the runway in bold, black lips atop a clean makeup base. For Peter Pilotto, makeup artist Inge Grognard went for strokes of vibrant shades like orange and blue on the eyelids, reminding us of this summer’s buzziest TV show Euphoria.

Gucci
Alessandro Michele invited guests to the Gucci Hub to present a collection celebrating self-identity and individuality. Makeup details extreme false eyelashes accenting the brows on a clean base with sleek hair.

For Jeremy Scott‘s Picasso-inspired Moschino runway, painter and hairstylist Julien d’Ys dressed wigs with strokes of bright-colored paint to match each model’s outfit.
Marni
Backstage at Marni, we saw Julien d’Ys craft nature-inspired hairstyles, accompanying the floral painting motifs found on pieces like jackets. Created with natural dried flowers, the headpieces served to address the issue of global climate change.
GCDS
Streetwear brand GCDS brought manga to life with large black contact lenses, high pigtails and over-the-top nail designs. Main themes found on the runway were Jurassic Park, Hello Kitty, Hawaii surfer and more.
Prada
Backstage at Prada, we saw Pat McGrath prepping models with a natural, matte base finished off with thick black strokes along the top of the eyes. Meanwhile celebrity hair stylist Guido Palau showed off sleek, pulled-back hairdos complete with short sideburns.
Exploring the origin of Elsa’s magical powers
On the runway filled with minimalist outfits inspired by the iconic John and Yoko couple, makeup looks were mostly pale, complete with nude-colored lips. Hair was left natural, juxtaposing the clean cut tailored blazers.
Max Mara
While tonal outfits made their way down the stage, models like Joan Smalls, Kaia Gerber, Bella Hadid and Sora Choi sported bold black lips, contrasting their clean, minimal base makeup. As for hair, braids seemed to be the staple look in addition to bob cuts.
Peter Pilotto
Diverting away from London, where they usually show their collections, designers Peter Pilotto and Christopher de Vos introduced looks featuring rich materials like lurex and jacquards. To complement these outfits, Inge Grognard added pigments to models’ eyelids for an overall eye-catching look.
