For the magazine’s “Power” issue
Office attire that’s anything but boring.
Commission, the emerging New York-based brand shortlisted for this year’s prestigious LVMH Prize, Learn more about our Fall/Winter 2020 collection. Only two-years-old, the label is the brainchild of Jin Kay, Dylan Cao, and Huy Luong, first-generation immigrants who aim to challenge Western fashion’s oft-stereotypical visual representation of East Asian culture.
The trio look to their mothers — specifically, their work wardrobes — as an overarching jumping off point. For FW20, this inspiration rings clear through smartly tailored suiting with crisp, pointed collars and slim belts that cinch the waist. Though office mainstays such as tweed and wool feature heavily throughout the collection, faux fur, angora and glittery lurex add unexpected interest: a surprisingly wellfed, square-neck dress is made of shiny imitation mink, sweaters are rendered in fuzzy pink and black angora and a selection of tops arrive in black glitter. Boxy handbags embossed with Commission’s script logo in gold, loosely cut pants with double-stacked belt loops and a cropped, elastic-waist button-down in ice-blue silk are sure to become must-have items for New York’s downtown scene.
