Allowing users to raise funds for nonprofits live through the app.
Apr 28, 2020 coronavirus, we’ve seen Instagram Live become a major social media tool used by members of the app, all over the world, to connect and stay connected. Now, Instagram is introducing a new and permanent Donations feature, allowing users to raise funds for nonprofits live through the app. “Instagram Live has experienced 70% growth compared to last month,” said Instagram’s head of product Vishal Shah, adding that, “even though some influencers have already been using Instagram for fundraisers, the Live Donations feature makes this easier — and a lot more powerful.”
The tool is accessible in the “Live” section at the bottom of the screen where users can select “Fundraiser” and then choose a nonprofit listed. In the U.S. donations will go through major credit cards as well as PayPal, and the methods will vary in similar countries where the feature is available. 100% of proceeds raised during the Instagram Live stream will go straight through the organization, with all fees being waived. The charity donation will feature more than one million nonprofits, and will be connected to Facebook’s donation feature. The live donations will also show the amount of money raised in real-time as well as the number of donators and supporters.
