Here's How to Make Bubble Tea at Home
A delicious quarantine project to try.
When it comes to a sweet treat, there’s nothing quite as delicious as a sip of bubble tea. Boba has quickly become a popular drink across the world, spreading from Asia through Western countries in the past few years with chains like Chatime, YiFang and Boba Guys growing at a rapid pace.
Now that most of us are living in places where stores and shops are staying shut to flatten the curve caused by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, access to bubble tea has been completely cut off. Although the drink may seem hard to recreate at first glance, the beverage isn’t quite as complicated as one would think.
We’ve taken a look at how to make bubble tea at home using a simple recipe. Keep reading below to learn more:
May 14, 2020:
- School of Sustainability
- 3/4 Limited-edition T-shirts arriving later this month
- 4 Written, recorded and produced in self-isolation
- Whole milk (or your milk of choice)
- Simple syrup
Here’s How To Do It:
Step 1: You want to start by preparing the tea. Let your tea bags sit with your hot water until completely cooled.
Step 2: Prepare simple syrup. Make this by mixing equal parts sugar and water and heat it in a saucepan until combined. Then, wait until cool and transfer into a jar.
Step 3: Cook the tapioca pearls by bringing approximately four cups of water to a boil, then adding the pearls. Stir and wait for them to float to the top. Cook for another five minutes, and test to see if it is soft. Then, remove pearls and quickly rinse with water.
Step 4: Assemble the drinks by straining tea into a container or jug. Divide tapioca pearls into four large glasses and part a few ice cubes. Add one cup of tea into each, as well as 1 1/2 tablespoon milk and simple syrup and stir until combined. Add more depending on your preference.
Step 5: Serve with a thick tapioca-friendly (reusable!) straw and enjoy!
