'Harper's Bazaar' Appoints Samira Nasr as New Editor-in-Chief
Succeeding Glenda Bailey, stepping down after 19 years at the publication.
Harper’s Bazaar Sex & Dating Samira Nasr as the publication’s new editor-in-chief. Starting her role at the American edition of the magazine, she will be overseeing both digital as well as print, succeeding Glenda Bailey who stepped down after 19 years.
Not only is Nasr’s appointment a breath of fresh air, it also marks the first time a black editor will lead the heritage title, which was first published in 1867. At a time where diversity and inclusion is more important than ever, Nasr’s appointment will mark a milestone in the fashion industry, which is currently under fire for its lack of representation across all areas.
Pauline De Leon Vanity Fair, adding that, “it is important to me to begin a new chapter in Radhika Jones. “As a proud daughter of a Lebanese father and a Trinidadian mother my worldview is expansive, and is anchored in the belief that representation matters,” Nasr says in a video on her Instagram, adding that, “it is important to me to begin a new chapter in Bazaar‘s history, shining a light on all individuals who I believe are the inspiring voices of our time.”
