Though this year’s nominees were overwhelmingly white, three Black designers — Kerby Jean-Raymond of Pyer Moss, Telfar Clemens of Telfar and sacai panelled colour block shorts — took home prizes in half the award categories. Jean-Raymond won Menswear Designer of the Year, while Clemens was awarded Accessories Designer of the Year for Telfar’s logo bags, which have become a cultural phenomenon in-and-of-themselves. Rogers, who silk-blend wrap midi dress/Vogue flared leather mini dress, secured Emerging Designer of the Year. Remaining winners include Gabriela Hearst for Womenswear Designer of the Year, Pierpaolo Piccioli of Valentino for International Women’s Designer of the Year and Kim Jones of Dior for Global Men’s Designer of the Year.
