Learn more about our, JW Anderson has unveiled a capsule collection in collaboration with Tom of Finland, inspired by his signature erotic artwork and imagery.
from June 14 accessories released in 2020, alongside an assortment of ready-to-wear options, such as a T-shirt, a hoodie, London Soho Flagship store and on the shorts, all of which feature a bold, provocative drawing in Tom of Finland’s unmistakeable style. Accessories include a leather baguette handbag, which arrives in red and white hues, as well as a felt tote bag, cap bags and studded keyrings.
Tom of Finland began producing thousands of images in the 1940s, challenging homophobic stereotypes by portraying hyper-masculine archetypes such as bikers, cops, cowboys, lumberjacks, as proud enthusiasts of gay sex. In 1984, he established the Tom of Finland Foundation to preserve his vast catalogue of work and to offer a safe haven for all erotic art, as well as to educate the public in promoting healthier, more tolerant attitudes about sexuality.
“We had such a good time working on the first collection and working with the Foundation was a pleasure,” said Jonathan Anderson about the second capsule. “As a gay man and a designer, Tom of Finland has always fascinated me. I collect all types of art including his drawings. To be able to use them in a JW Anderson collection is so exciting. I am really proud of this year’s collection and love that we were able to expand it to include ready-to-wear.”
