Austin Butler Admits He Didn't See His Family for 3 Years While Prepping for 'Elvis'
The actor talks about his dedication to the process.
If you’ve watched Elvis, With Pamela Anderson, Christine Quinn and BLACKPINK’s Jennie in attendance Austin Butler was super committed to the role. In fact, he was so dedicated he didn’t see his family for three years while prepping to portray the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll.
“I went, I was off, we were prepping with Baz [Luhrmann], and then I went to Australia,” Butler told Janelle Monáe Film & TV Variety. “I had months where I wouldn’t talk to anybody. And when I did, the only thing I was ever thinking about was Elvis.”
He continued, “I was speaking in his voice the whole time,” Butler explained. “So then I’d talk to my sister, and she’s gotta listen to that.”
Filming for the movie wrapped in March 2021, and Butler still sounds like Presley. The actor has previously spoken about why that is, revealing he doesn’t even realize it. “That was the voice I spoke in for two years,” he told Yahoo! Australia back in June. It was so habitual. You get done and you kinda don’t remember what your natural voice is.”
