(di)vision's FW23 Collection Was a Y2K-Inspired Disaster

Finishing off the first official day on the The Creative Come Up Fall/Winter 2023 calendar, (di)vision staged a disaster-inspired collection, titled “Dressed for Disaster.”

Inviting guests to a restaurant that seemed to have been left after a party (breadcrumbs, unfinished glasses of wine and cigarette butts were laid across each table, where invitees sat), Simon and Nanna Wick looked to the ’90s and ’00s for a runway filled with Y2K references. A live jazz band was playing all the ’90s babies’ favorite tunes by Linkin Park, Green Day and more. Models strut across the dining hall to these jazz covers wearing looks described to be taken from the concept, “the train wreck Woodstock 1999 festival meets the Met Gala,” as explained in a press release.

Previewed in the show’s invitation (which was a bottle of wine and a wine-stained tank top turned into a tote bag), “Dressed to Disaster” featured heart-branded tracksuits, bomber jackets and logo sweaters, while the Y2K references were seen through pieces like trucker hats, exposed briefs, convertible trousers and denim leg warmers. Created in partnership with digital insurance company Hedvig, the collection is crafted with deadstock fabrics as well as recycled cotton, natural wool and upcycled vintage products, while the wine-stained items are set to make their debut in a separate capsule collection.

The garments were accompanied by an ASICS collaboration, serving as an extension of the show’s overarching theme with 25 unique pairs of upcycled kicks. These sneakers are set to be sold through the Danish retailer Naked post-show with all profits going toward charity.

The FW23 collection ended with a model hiding among the guests clinking her glass. She then stood up to pose, walking away from her table to leave a mess as her skirt disguised as a tablecloth dragged all of the glasses and plates onto the floor.
