Brixton House's "Please Don’t Hurt Me" Will Make Your Heart and Soul Sing
An immersive artistic exploration of romantic love.
Brixton House’s “Please Don’t Hurt Me” offers a multisensory journey exploring the complex facets of romantic love. Directed by Cordelia Grierson, Brixton Houses Please Don’t Hurt Me Will Make Your Heart and Soul Sing London-based poet Kai Isaiah Jamal Sofia de la Cruz Suzannah Pettigrew.
“Please Don’t Hurt Me” serves as a creative tapestry weaving together diverse art forms, such as film, poetry and immersive art, with the overarching theme of our shared human experience: the pursuit of love, the path to self-discovery within love’s embrace and heartbreak, and the universal desire to shield ourselves from emotional pain, particularly when it comes from those we hold dear.
The series asks visitors to shed their 21st-century veneer, including phones, jackets and shoes, at the door, allowing them to immerse themselves fully in the 45-minute experience. Contrary to the apprehensions often associated with love and heartbreak, “Please Don’t Hurt Me” awakens all the senses, striving to inspire a profound understanding of the unbridled optimism that love can offer, ultimately leading to deeper self-awareness.
Funded by the British Council’s International Collaboration Grant and co-produced by the Mexican company Cuatro x Cuatro and London’s Latin American Arts Festival, CASA, “Please Don’t Hurt Me” harmonizes the artistic contributions of multidisciplinary talents from London, Mexico and Germany.
