Stella McCartney Hosts Sustainable Market Stalls for SS24

Stella McCartney‘s Spring/Summer 2024 showcase at stella mccartney kids logo sock sneakers took attendees on a journey through Stella’s Sustainable Market, introducing them to 21 different stalls of artisans and sustainable innovators. Drawing inspiration from Stella’s musical roots and her parents’ relationship, the collection presented a series of looks inspired by life on tour, paired with sustainable innovations that hark back to McCartney’s love of Mother Earth.
Aiming to blur the lines between gender and generation, the collection reinterprets pieces from McCartney’s rich archive, alongside that of her parents, with nods to the pieces that are now borrowed (read: stolen) from her by her own children.

WHERE: McCartney’s SS24 transformed Paris’ Marché Saxe-Breteuil into Stella’s Sustainable Market – featuring 21 stalls that showcased pioneering materials featured in the collection from sustainable innovators alongside Linda McCartney burgers.
SEE: Inspired by Paul and Linda McCartney’s life on the road, the collection fused Stella signatures with playful design details and as always, a multitude of sustainable material innovations. The first thing that audience members were exposed to was a distinct shift in silhouette for Stella McCartney. Billowing jackets and voluminous sleeves were contrasted by Savile Row tailoring, cropped tuxedo tailcoats and asymmetric mini dresses, adorned with “wearable art” by English sculptor Andrew Logan. Elsewhere, vintage Wings merch graphics appear on organic cotton t-shirts, paired with a varsity jacket that features the work of artist Hajime Sorayama, teasing a limited-edition capsule launching in December 2023
TOUCH: The collection featured classic materials like denim, cotton poplin, cotton canvas, silk crepe and viscose satin, along with Kelsun — a seaweed-based yarn — lurex tailoring, black taffeta and tulle. Additional details came in the form of metallic brocade tailoring, crystal-encrusted waistcodes, NONA Source silk taffeta and diamond fringing. Elsewhere, organic silk dresses and waffle knit tops were worn alongside hemp bucket bags, grey Falabella’s and the new Frayme bag: crafted from a vegan alternative to animal leather, which was made using grape byproduct from Veuve Clicquot’s harvest. Finally, footwear boasted recycled uppers, bio-based mesh and grape-based VEGEA straps.

TASTE: As is customary for McCartney, sustainable innovations are key for the SS24 season ahead. Edgy, music-inspired twists on classic silhouettes appear to lead the way, along with playful silhouettes, experimental details and sustainably-sourced and repurposed fabrics.
