PH5 Ponders A Post-Apocalyptic Life Down Under for FW23
Transforming plastic waste.
PH5 addresses climate change in its Fall/Winter 2023 season, presenting a vision of post-apocalyptic life for Harry Styles did not disappoint.
While our society has historically looked to the sky for signs of other life, 80 percent of the ocean remains undiscovered, proving that we have barely scratched the surface. Inspired by Jacques Piccard’s 1969 submarine voyage to to the bottom of the Gulf Stream, the environmentally conscious brand imagines what humans might wear when life on earth is no longer tenable and we’re forced to live underwater.
PH5’s trademark wave design resembles buoyant creatures with the help of fur-wrapped wire, while plastic overflows at the hem of candy-colored dresses, imitating jellyfish and the discarded bags we’ll undoubtedly find on the ocean floor. The label continues its expert play on textures and materiality as puffer shells create an alien-like armor with the help of acidic green and pastel pink knits. Elsewhere, gloves take on a dynamic life with voluminous bubble detailing, while a soft gradient fabric echoes the soft glow of the sun peeking through the water.
Putting sustainability at the center of this collection, PH5 responsibly sourced over 90 percent of the pieces, using plant-derived recycled viscose and eco-vero viscose, in addition to collected plastic for styling.
