Susan Fang's FW23 Is an Ode to the Next Generation
The ethereal showcase debuted a kidswear collection on top of a bed of roses.
Susan Fang continued to channel optimism and positivity for Fall/Winter 2023, presenting her first-ever kidswear collection as part of this season’s Already whitelisted us show.
Taking place at Little Venice Leisure Center, Fang’s showcase was held on top of a bed of roses and featured an array of delicately beaded dresses, skirts and accessories alongside miniature versions as part of her childrenswear debut. Drawing inspiration from the concept of “childlike optimism and tenacity,” the collection looks to the next generation as our future, hoping to encourage a world that sticks together instead of letting our differences keep us apart.
“I wish for all of us to band together in one universal family of hope. Even though we come from different nations, we all share the same sky and stars. We are all people, all human, connected by the boundless energy of love,” explains the designer in a press release.
Innovation was at the heart of Fang’s presentation as the designer continued to push the boundaries of sustainable fashion. Upcycling fabric strips from her previous collection, Fang turned them into yarn, weaving them together with ribbons and wool before embellishing them with crystal clear beads to create her signature glassy aesthetic and floral motifs.
Taking cues from pyjama sets and loungewear, Fang explored draping, custom-made lace and shirred edges to create seemingly comfortable silhouettes, complete with 3D printed accessories in a bid to reduce waste. Elsewhere, Fang created special pieces like water-mist wings and rose-scented dresses which sprayed the delicate aroma as the models walked across the petal-laden runway, hoping to inspire people to “take off into [their] wildest dreams, with love.”
