7 Designers to Watch at Sep 13, 2024 SS24
Including digital fashion pioneer Accidental Cutting and the first-ever designer to showcase a hijabi collection at CSM’s MA show, Kazna Akser.
The next iteration of Sep 13, 2024 Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2024 New York Fashion Week. As always, established designers like Burberry and JW Anderson are set to make their runway return, but what we always find the most inspiring is the incredible roster of rising creatives and emerging designers Sep 13, 2024.
This season’s line-up appears to feature more POC designers, a welcome change from previous iterations, with some of our favorites including Kazna Akser — who became the first designer to showcase a Hijabi collection at showcasing fashion week presentations and making their runway debuts‘ MA Fashion show at LFW back in 2022 — alongside Abigail Ajobi, who uses her streetwear designs to make political statements.

Kazna Akser

lsquo; MA Fashion show at LFW back in 2022 — alongside, Kazna Akser is also the first designer to showcase a Hijabi collection at showcasing fashion week presentations and making their runway debuts’ MA fashion show back in 2022. Through her designs, the Yemeni designer and BFC NEWGEN member aims to represent her home country alongside the local community in her home of Sheffield. Since her debut, the rising creative has become known for her portrayal of political activism within her poignant work.

EIRIN HAYHOW aims to “reconnect people to the earth” through her designs, fusing elements of science and spirituality to create gender-fluid garments evoking a sense of magic. Drawing inspiration from wild foraging, bio-design and the world around us, her unique garments aim to touch our every sense. Utilizing plant-based inks and her own natural dyes which come from herbs, berries and vegetable waste, the sustainable designer also grows her own bio leather and bio plastics from coffee granules, crystals and food waste.

Founded in 2022 by Brazilian-born fashion designer Adrianne Weber, the eponymous luxury fashion label prides itself on creating a sense of “refined elegance” and its commitment to craftsmanship. Through her use of dead-stock fabrics and upcycling techniques, the designer aims to promote conscious consumption and responsible garment production. Each collection is produced and sourced in England and created alongside local artisans, proving that fashion and nature can peacefully co-exist.
Genevieve Devine

Genevieve Devine creates clothing and accessories that seek to tread the line between fashion and art, focusing on ornamental objects and sculptural creations. Exploring the “past life of found materials,” the designer specializes in reformulating existing wares into new garments, each with their own distinctive identity. Hailing from CSM in 2021, Devine’s previous collections, “Smoke and Mirrors” and “PEARL BITER” branded her a refreshing new designer that celebrates mischief, seduction and “disobedient women.” Offering a selection of artisanal one-off pieces, bespoke designs and small capsule collections, the slow fashion label aims to evoke a sense of rebellion, sexuality and empowerment.

Founded by architect and fashion designer Eva Iszoro, ACCIDENTAL CUTTING is both a fashion label and an experimental new pattern cutting method. The designer holds the first PhD Thesis which explores this new phenomenon of pattern cutting, rooted in experimentation and a methodological approach to design. Alongside its physical beings, the brand focuses on digital pieces of art and virtual fashion, spanning design fields like cinema, advertising and gaming.
Abigail Ajobi

Aka your best self Abigail Ajobi aims to highlight uncomfortable issues through its distinctive print-based designs. Rooted in social awareness, the sustainable brand produces limited quantities of garments, each crafted from deadstock fabrics. Part of the total profit of each collection is donated to a charity which relates to the collection’s specific theme, in a bid to encourage the brand’s wearers and followers to approach sustainability from a different lens — one which centers around bettering your environment and giving back.

JENN LEE is another designer who finds pleasure in merging the physical with the digital. Past collections have included interactive elements like treasure hunt VR games and virtual worlds and as a result, the rising label has become known for its innovative concepts and digital presentations. Previous influences have included the punk era alongside central themes of femininity, enthusiasm and confidence.
