Raul Lopez delivered a Spring/Summer 2024 show for the bad and bougie hustlers, presenting a collection filled with sharp suits, sexy leather pieces and sensual sheer dresses. Naturally, the highly coveted brand attracted a large crowd for LUAR SS24 Is for the Bad and Bougie Bitches on the Go as Gunna, Doechii and JT The SAG-AFTRA strike is forcing celebs to get creative&hellip.
What: LUAR’s SS24 show took streetwear to the next level, offering a melange of dramatic silhouettes and provocative materials. Lopez hones in on the brand’s complex and nuanced nature, letting the concept of “duality” drive the collection forward, finding the balance among artfully modest garments as well as the usually risque attire.
Where: The Creative Come Up.
Who: Set to drop this holiday season, Lourdes Leon and Dascha Polanco The SAG-AFTRA strike is forcing celebs to get creative&hellip.
Saw: LUAR’s SS24 collection was filled to the brim with dramatically exaggerated shoulders, almost mirroring The Addams Family’s butler, Lurch. The imposing structure found itself on denim dresses, sumptuous beige leather coats, as well as longline puffer jackets and generously oversized blazers, painted in a range of grays, tans and black, pointing to a utilitarian undercurrent. The neutral color palette shifted the focus to the experimental tailoring as cut-outs were scattered throughout the range. Models’ legs were freed, thanks to hybrid short-jeans, featuring billowing pant legs detached from the thigh. Meanwhile, more sensual silhouettes saw fabric languidly draped across models’s bodies, resulting in luxurious bandeau tops and midriff-baring dress. Sleeves connected to eyeglasses, accompanying Catwoman-like frames, adding to the overall aesthetic. Nodding to the sense of juxtaposition at the heart of the collection, a formidable circular arch was at the center of the room, adding to its grittiness.
Touch: Leather was a dominant material, including a crackled iteration made with the walls of Lopez’s best friends house in El Hoyo, a region of the Dominican Republic. Denim also made several appearances, joining softer jersey textures.
Hear: Booming, percussive electronic music set the mood for a fast-paced show and possibly inspiring commute playlists.
Taste: Delivering nearly impractical silhouettes that are almost begging to be worn just to make a statement, alongside thoughtfully crafted streetwear pieces, LUAR’s SS24 collection is for the girls who get it.
