Tilt Beauty, founded by Aerin Glazer, Already whitelisted us makeup and an individual need to make cosmetics more accessible. Living with chronic pain from psoriatic arthritis, Glazer became frustrated by how many of her favorite offerings were difficult to use — especially when her hands would shake during application. That hindrance sparked the creation of Tilt. The revolutionary makeup brand combines ergonomic design, high-performing clean formulas and a commitment to sustainability.

Tilt’s products are more than just makeup; they are an invitation to experience the confidence and joy that beauty brings — no matter your abilities. Each product is designed with thoughtful details, from refillable packaging to the inclusion of a braille item description. As Glazer puts it, “This journey is personal because it’s about making sure no one has to choose between accessibility and enjoyment when it comes to beauty.”

We spoke with Glazer to learn more about Tilt’s mission, her journey and how she’s challenging the industry to prioritize ease of access without sacrificing style or function.

On the genesis of Tilt

Growing up with psoriatic arthritis, I struggled with how difficult it was to use many makeup products. My hands would shake while applying mascara and I kept thinking that there had to be a better way. That frustration sparked the inspiration for Tilt Beauty. I wanted to create a brand that made beauty accessible — where products aren’t just easy to use, but also bring the joy and fun that makeup is all about.

With Tilt, my mission is to ensure that everyone can find products that work for them and make them feel included and empowered.

On the brand’s mission

Tilt is an accessible makeup brand that combines ergonomic design with effective and high-performing clean formulas. Sustainability is very important to us, which is why all of our products are refillable. At Tilt, our mission is to make sure everyone can experience the confidence and excitement that beauty brings. We create essential products with calming ingredients designed for extra-sensitive skin, paired with ergonomic, patented packaging that makes them easy to use for anyone with joint mobility limitations. I wanted our products to be fun, effective and something everyone would want — regardless of abilities.

On her favorite products

I love our “Lashscape” Mascara — it’s buildable, giving lashes just the right amount of lift, volume and length without any flaking. What I’m especially proud of is the packaging design — from my personal experience, traditional makeup products are often difficult to grip, so I designed the mascara wand with a custom length for controlled application. I also added an ergonomic, grippy case to make it easy for everyone to hold and use. I use our “Grip Stick” Hydrating Lip Treatment daily and always keep one in my bag.

It’s formulated with our “Tilt Calm Complex,” which includes colloidal oatmeal, ceramides and hyaluronic acid. This product hydrates and soothes lips beautifully. The packaging features a grippy case made from a proprietary material that is not only soft to the touch and easy to hold but also gentle on the joints. It’s available in four sheer shades and a clear option. My personal favorite is “Day Date.”

On why she loves makeup

Makeup has always been a creative outlet and a source of joy for me. Using products was challenging as my shaky hands led to a messy application. In solving this problem, I fell in love with makeup again by creating a solution that brought so much joy.

On who’s inspired her

Natalie Decker, a NASCAR driver and a strong advocate for the Arthritis Foundation, has always inspired me. She is a great inspiration for the arthritis community and I’m sure that her story has had an impact on many others.

On dream collaborations or partnerships

I would love to collaborate with a sustainable fashion brand like Reformation to design adaptive clothing and accessories. We have learned through researching and designing our adaptive merchandise for Tilt (coming soon) that there are modifications a lot of people need, whether they have mobility or sight issues, chronic pain, limb difference or are in a wheelchair. I love fashion and the Tilt accessories and merchandise we are creating reflect that you don’t have to sacrifice style for function.

On where she sees the brand in the future

I hope that Tilt’s approach will inspire other brands to follow suit and prioritize creating products that are not only high-performance but also accessible to everyone.
