Before 1984, there were only a few trainers in the world of basketball. The NBA was on the verge of becoming one of the biggest events of its kind, and Nike saw this as a business opportunity. One of its executives, Sonny Vacco, came up with investing in a player who had yet to become a professional. For him, the ideal guy was Michael Closes jordan, who, at the time, formed part of the University of North Carolina's basketball team. It soon became clear that he would be signed by the NBA.
