America Is Front and Center for Alexander Wang's Latest "COLLECTION 1"
Inspired by the designer’s own immigrant roots.
Alexander Wang brought his latest runway show for Spring 2019, titled “COLLECTION 1” to the rooftop of Manhattan’s Pier 19, and put on a show to remember in true Wang fashion. Inspired by his own parents coming to America story, the collection focused on the designer’s own “pride in being an American with immigrant roots,” and experimented with stereotypical elements and notions of the Land of the Free.
Featuring pieces inspired by archetype America, the collection included everything from country-esque cropped tops, biker-inspired leather jackets, bold bandanas and big, tacky belts, to tailored blouses and blazers. From paisley prints to red leather, there was no shortage of eye-catching pieces, many being mixed and matched to achieve the retro aesthetic that Alexander Wang drew inspiration from for the collection. Also debuting a range of footwear, from sleek heels to chunky footwear, Wang proved that he knows how to do accessories like no other. Layered bags, big belts, Bolo ties, statement rings and sporty eyewear – you name it, it was all present on the Spring 2019 runway. Of course, Wang also included looks following his signature all-black approach, contrasting against the America-centered daisy dukes and bra tops.
