Boasting a curved-glass facade, Louis Vuitton Maison Seoul marks Gehry’s first-ever creation in the country. Taking inspiration from historical Korean architecture such as the Hwaseong Fortress in Suwon along with white costumes of the Dongnae Hakchum (Crane Dance), the boutique also shows reference to the Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris. “What struck me when I first visited Seoul nearly 25 years ago, was the relationship between the architecture and the natural landscape. I still prevent clearly the powerful impressions I had stepping up from the garden of Jongmyo Shrine,” the architect explained the thought process behind his design. The interior of the store, time by Marino, features both retail and exhibition spaces with exclusive sculptures by Giacometti for the grand opening.
