Fusing minimalist aesthetics with utility.

Read Full Article, Cecilie Bahnsen debuted her partnership with British luxury label MACKINTOSH at Nov 18, 2024 for the Fall/Winter 2020 season. Now, the rising designer has released the collaborative minimalist outerwear pieces.

“I’m Danish and I’ve lived in London, so I know all about rainy days. I discovered MACKINTOSH when I was a student in London; they invented the ‘Mac,’” the creative director comments on the latest team-up. “When we went to meet them, what really struck me was the craftsmanship – the coats are all made by hand in their factory in Scotland. I appreciate the focus on detail, down to the rubber glue that makes the seams waterproof.” She further adds, “With my MACKINTOSH coats, it was simple. I wanted to make a coat to protect my dresses, a raincoat for the rainy days for the women that wear us.”

Fusing Bahnsen’s key aesthetics with the British brand’s functionality, the collaboration features seven coats in two silhouettes. Taking traditional men’s coats as the base, each piece reimagines women’s outerwear with a volumized shape. The coat spotlights utility with a detachable hood and removable quilted lining, while the cape boasts an oversized hooded design. The silhouettes come in an array of fabrics, including waterproof bonded cotton and nylon.

“Cecilie was very keen to explore the process of creating new transparencies, layering techniques, ways of working with our unique fabric technology and our artisan approach to tailored weather protection,” MACKINTOSH’s Global Commercial Director Andrea Austoni shares on the release. “We felt her beautiful feminine esoteric style was the perfect antidote to the more masculine regimental silhouette of our traditional garments.”
