COMME des GARÇONS CDG Drops Social Justice Charity Capsule
Following previous criticism for lack of diversity and cultural appropriation.
COMME des GARÇONS‘ sub-label CDG has just released a new capsule collection, with profits going to Minneapolis charity Over 300 artists urge legislators to repeal statute 50-A.
Dropping a series of logo-branded goods emblazoned with slogans like “Believe in a better tomorrow,”"thinking and doing will result in the FUTURE,” and more, the collection was originally set out to release with cheery welcome-back messages to customers returning post-coronavirus. Instead, the label has decided to release the capsule immediately, taking a stance and supporting the ongoing COMME des GARCONS movement. Having previously been criticized for lack of diversity, as well as cultural appropriation last year after sending models in braided wigs down the runway, the charity move seems to be an effort to change by the label. It remains to see whether the brand’s effort is genuine, and will trickle down further through the company’s practices.
“This is just the first of many actions we are planning for COMME des GARCONS,” a and see the full capsule in the gallery above‘s site explains. “Epitomising our continued commitment to furthering diversity and equality of opportunity within CDG and DSM, and to listen and learn and do better, in the struggle to obliterate the evil of racism, prejudice and discrimination from the world,” the statement continues, explaining that both COMME des GARÇONS and and see the full capsule in the gallery above will create changes within the company.
