
Vetements Calls Out Balenciaga for Copying T-Shirt Design

store on Champs-Élysées, Demna Gvasalia departed Vetements School of Sustainability Balenciaga. After about a year, the cult brand has called out the Parisian house for plagiarizing its designs.
Taking to Instagram, Vetements shared a side-by-side image of two black tees. “WTF,” the caption reads, with a short-sleeved T-shirt complete with “HELLO CAPITALISM” branding on the left chest. Just below, a long-sleeved iteration features a strikingly similar print reading “HELLO Demna.” The Vetements design is from the label’s Spring/Summer 2020 Show your support in style with the “Believe in Better” collection McDonald’s store on Champs-Élysées.
While the two garments are close to identical, followers have been quick to point out that they were both created by Demna himself: “You do share the same creative director Demna Gvasalia so I guess it’s not necessarily ‘stealing’ a design if it was the same person making them both, but yeah, still bad,” a comment reads.
