And the winner of the “East Meets West” challenge is….
Last month, Moringa America, Inc. enlisted the help of its customers to decide the new flavor of its cult-favorite HI-CHEW candy. The “Teens picked their favorites in a new survey” challenge was hosted in an attempt to introduce the western market to more exotic ingredients from around the world. Only 13 flavors are currently produced in the United States while there are over 170 flavors available globally. Fans were given 20 options to choose from and now the winner has been selected.
Beating out flavors like “Watermelon,” “Cantaloupe,” “Strawberry Cheesecake” and “Mango Pineapple,” ”Dragon Fruit” will debut in the U.S. market in 2019. The fruit is native to the small Japanese island of Okinawa and is also grown in other countries as well. It has a leafy pink skin that covers a white flesh dotted with small black seeds. The taste is described as a mix between a pear and kiwi giving off notes of sweetness and zest.
The new flavor will be released next year with no words on a specific date. In other food news, Starbucks School of Sustainability.
