Paris Hilton Opens Up About Being an "Asexual" Sex Symbol in Her 20s

In a recent interview, Hilton unpacks her relationship with sex and pleasure.

In a recent interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Paris Hilton discusses her sexuality.

“My entire life has been so public,” Hilton opens the interview. In her memoir Paris, the socialite shares her journey battling with addiction and being taken advantage of by everyone from the media, to those she was supposed to trust, like a male teacher in middle school whom she admits groomed her.

The release of her sex tape — without her consent — paired with her dating pubicly in her 20s led everyone to believe that she was a “sex symbol,” Hilton recounts. “I was known as a sex symbol, but anything sexual terrified me,” she said. “I called myself the ‘kissing bandit’ because I only liked to make out. A lot of my relationships didn’t work out because of that.”

Hilton questioned herself, and in her opinion, “prude” ways which led her to believe she was asexual. Asexuality, for those unfamiliar, is an interesting relationship with sexual desire. Some asexual individuals, as asexual activist Yasmin Benoit shared, are “repulsed by anything sexual,” while others can “enjoy masturbation and have kinks.” As a result, Hilton believed she fell within this spectrum.

However, upon meeting her now-husband Reum during the pandemic, she quickly knew she wasn’t asexual. The issue was feeling safe. “It wasn’t until Carter that I finally am not that way,” she joked. “I enjoy hooking up with my husband.”
